Today’s Globe printed the article “Brain Scans May Detect MS Before Symptoms Appear.” Wow! Now that’s newsworthy. Well, ok, perhaps not. The use of an MRI, a scan, or any technology for that matter, to expose disease prior to symptom development, isn’t ‘new’. For years, Dr. Harold Foster, (www.hdfoster.com), a medical geographer and orthomolecular advocate, has said that poor diet and lifestyle can cause the eventual development of MS. Basically, the Scientific model has finally caught up to the ‘technology of nutrition’ and orthomolecular medicine – systems of healing that take note of early signs of illness – such as inflammation, dysbiosis, and anxiety – and provide the body with the nutrients needed to prevent the disease and imminent total system failure! No crystal ball needed here! And yet…the article quotes a neurologist who prefers to wait till treatment is needed: “…it is best to recall the wise advice that we treat the patient, not the MRI”. How about preventing the disease in the first place! When science catches up to that concept – that will be newsworthy.
