Many issues in pediatrics call for an Orthomolecular approach in order to forestall or replace more traditional measures of medical management. This paper will address the issues of recurrent upper respiratory disorders (RURD) and the hy-perkinetic/attention deficit disorder (HK/ADD).

Thanks all! I gave my sister Dr. Mercola's website and Dr. Andrew Saul's site. I wanted to start her off slowly, like one of you suggested. Also, Dr. Mercole is an MD and Saul a PhD. Maybe then I could through in Orthomed - since she is very very cautious when it comes to this kind of stuff. Shelley.

Hi Shelly, Maybe don't

Hi Shelly, Maybe don't suggest taking off most foods right away - just eliminate the most common known allergens first like wheat, dairy, soy, sugar and corn. At first look it seems like you are limiting a lot but then (hopefully) they will realize that there is still a whole lot of great choices are out there. This might be an easier approach.

Hey Shelley,
Your sis may feel more comfortable hearing this from an MD. :) :(
Check out the work of Doris Rapp, MD. Board-Certified in Pediatrics, Allergy and Environmental Medicine.
She has a great book titled 'Is this Your Child?'

So if someone is ADD/ADHD, and I at least suggest taking off most foods, and keeping things bland (where possible), maybe things will get better for my cousin while they try to figure out what's "officially" wrong??Sounds good. Not sure my sister will agree to try. :(

It's interesting all this

It's interesting all this focus on diet and orthomolecular and how it impacts behaviour. We have a child who's been diagnosed as Gifted LD but while we were trying to get to the bottom of his learning disabilities we read a lot about Hoffer's work to do with attention defecit and nutrition.
Here's a good starting point for those interested:

As it turns out, our son's issues are more around working memory and phonology but it's been an informative journey and one that's helping us to look at our family's diet and vitamin intake differently. Suffice to say both my wife and I are taking a gram of Vit C everyday and B complex and supplementing the kids nutrition. We're also really exploring homeopathic solutions when they do have illnesses. More on that later..
