Seven studies are reviewed that have examined the impact of vitamin/mineral supplementation on children's performance on intelligence tests. Five studies have reported that the taking of supplements was associated with improved performance, although not all children respond, rather those whose diet supplies low levels of vitamins and minerals benefit. In the studies that have reported positive findings, in each case the response was primarily in terms of non-verbal measures of intelligence, a change that is predicted theoretically. There have been suggestions that supplementation may also be associated with an improved mood and the ability to sustain attention, although it is unclear whether this completely accounts for the improved performance on non-verbal intelligence tests.

Hi would agree. For the last

Hi would agree. For the last 20 years I have been a food lable reader and I avoid eating any artificial ingredients. I have found that the food I ingest in a day has a measureable effect on my mental and physical performance and general sense of well-being. I'm confident that this is true for many children. How were we ever convinced that ingesting chemicals in our foods...non naturally occurring substances...could be good for us? When are we going to realize that these artificial ingredients are just a way for food companies to keep their cost low and profits high? and a way to make unhealthy food taste desireable?

I think we still need to

I think we still need to seriously take a look at aspartame.
Aspartame has been the subject of controversy regarding its safety and the circumstances of its approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Some critics believe it to be the cause of a number of illnesses, but no conclusive scientific evidence has been produced to support the validity of their claims. To this day, the health effects of aspartame have been under intensive study. According to significant testing associated to national and international health organizations, they have been declared safe.
