prevention of artificial deficiency question

Hi,I just read a book on orthomolcular health, and it's influenced me to try a Niacin regimen (1,000mg 3x/day, so total 3,000mg/day). I also have an old nutrition book, though, that says that if you take one of the B vitamins in large doses that you can create an artificial deficiency in the others, so you should also take a B complex to safeguard against this.I'm writing to ask if anyone has any good information (links, etc) on the specifics of this. At this dosage of Niacin, how much B complex daily would be a safe bet to avoid the imbalance?I'm going to try to meet with an orthomolecular doctor before really diving into this, but I want to order some of the stuff sooner, so I thought I'd see if anyone here could point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Thanks Talya, that's a big

Thanks Talya, that's a big help!And I'll look for Dr. Hoffer's book.

Hi Natalie, I wanted to

Hi Natalie,

I wanted to suggest a a book/offer info:

In Ortho Treatment: Guide for Practitioners, Dr. Hoffer talks about Niacin/B3:

- it's water soluble, like the other B vitamins, so there is no build up to worry about/take the place of another nutrient. (* Although you should find out when you see an OM practitioner what you specifically may be deficient in and correct that, too?!)

- Dr. Hoffer writes "at least half the population needs extra niacin ranging from a little to more than is present in our food to the large doses that have to be used to correct blood lipid levels....
So taking B3 is a good start.

- he also talks about B6 and Folic acid (another B vit).

Hope this helps!
Talya
