Medical Education

There's this great US article that sums up the problem with our current focus away from Prevention, and almost entirely on Treatment (which doesn't come close to hitting the mark).

A Vital Part of Healthcare Reform: Change How We Educate Our Doctors

Currently, we are stuck in this model that is symptom-suppression. Exactly how are you to know that you are in pain, sick, deathly ill, is drugs mask the signs?

 What a great article!  And

What a great article!  And coming from a Medical Director too. This information isn't new but it still hasn't really made an impact on the medical community at large.  But statements such as  "Deaths from correctly prescribed and taken medications are now the fourth leading cause of death" are clear indication that something about the conventional medical-pharmaceutical paradigm is no longer working in the best interest of the patient.I believe that every health care professional aspires to work for the betterment of their patient, but when more and more drugs are required, either to alleviate the side effects of a prior drug or because we're no longer responding to the original dosage, it's time we stop and think "as patients relying on the professional opinion of the doctor, are we being helped?"It seems that this Doctor has the right idea, we've been down the same beaten, trodden path maybe it's time to open ourselves as patients, and the doctors that serve us to something that offers a complete solution rather than temporary relief.  It just makes sense that all doctors should have nutrition included in their educational program, we all eat don't we?
